The average monthly rent for an apartment with one bedroom is up 4 percent more than last year at $3,554 and 10 percent higher for a two-bedroom apartment at $5,007.

In San Francisco, groceries cost about 24 percent more than the national average, and clothing also costs about 24 percent more.
