Long Beach Transit bus is another alternative to commuting by car. Hope on a free shuttle bus with the Passport Bus connecting the downtown area to popular attractions, shops, and restaurants in Long Beach.

Education

Home to California State University-Long Beach (CSULB), this public university is one of the 10 best schools for undergraduate teaching in the U.S. You can take legal studies, engineering education, the arts, health and human services – or hundreds of others classes. This school has a high-ranked Division I athletics program if you’re into golf, basketball, volleyball, soccer, or baseball.

Retirement

Looking to live out your Golden Years in a beautiful, warm oasis? As one of the most affordable beach towns to retire in, you will love the many retirement communities that abound here. You’ll have access to health care institutions such as St. Mary Medical Center and Long Beach Medical Center. If you plan to travel in retirement, good news is, you’re close to the Long Beach Airport.

Hit the Beach

Did you know Long Beach sees nearly 300 sunny days per year? Average yearly temps range from 60 to 80 degrees, which means you’ll want to head to the beach frequently. Belmont Shore Beach is the perfect place for a swim, some volleyball, or sunbathing. Mother’s Beach is perfect for the kiddos, as it boasts a protected swim area, concessions stands, toys, and plenty of green spaces.

Downtown Long Beach

This is a hot spot when it comes to entertainment, dining, shopping, and local attractions. Bring Fido to Rosie’s Dog Beach, check out the World War II-era ship at The Queen Mary, get fresh fruit at the Downtown Long Beach Farmers Market or sample some good eats at the Beach City Food Tour. The Pike Outlets is great for shopping, plus it’s known for its 90-foot Ferris wheel.

Murals

There’s lots of street art and public murals in Long Beach. POW! WOW! Long Beach is a popular annual week-long event for local artists to perform murals and street art in all the most open and public spaces. Check out the many galleries of the East Village Arts District, where there are plenty of bright murals to view. Every second Saturday of the month, the Long Beach Art Walk takes place, with many paintings and sculptures on display. It’s breathtaking to see all the beautiful art offset by the sounds of the sea not far away.

Long Beach boasts an exceptional culture and arts scene, which is evidenced by its many museums and theaters. Don’t miss the Long Beach Museum of Art, home to more than 3,000 works of art crafted by contemporary artists. Latin American art collections and exhibits…summer art camps…fun community events…the possibilities are endless at the Museum of Latin American Art.
